Inside Meghan Markle’s Peaceful Life as a New Mom With Prince Harry and Baby Archie

The Duchess Of Sussex made her first public appearance at Trooping the Colour on Saturday, after revealing Baby Archie to the world a little more than a month ago. Meghan Markle dressed in a navy ensemble, her dress by Claire Waight Keller of Givenchy, her wedding designer, and her hat by Noel Stewart. She accompanied her husband Prince Harry and shared a carriage with Kate, the Duchess Of Cambridge in Alexander McQueen and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Both Kate and Meghan paying homage to their wedding dress designers by wearing looks by them.

Although Meghan was on maternity leave, a royal source told ELLE.com that “the Queen’s birthday celebration is a family event with the wider members of the royal family all in attendance.”

Meghan, who takes her Royal duties very seriously, has always been conscious of tradition, according to friends, and wanted to honor the Queen at the annual birthday parade.

“This is similar to the Duchess of Cambridge’s maternity leave where she made a few appearances at family and personal events (Trooping the Couple and Wimbledon) but did not carry out any official duties as a member of the Royal Family during maternity leave,” a Royal source shared. The Duchess Of Sussex did not participate in the recent U.S. State visit.

Archie did not attend Trooping the Colour, but that wasn’t too surprising. William and Kate’s children did not attend Trooping the Colour until they were a bit older. Prince Louis made his first appearance this year as a toddler, just after his first birthday, as did Charlotte at the same age. It is unclear if Meghan and Harry brought Archie to Buckingham Palace while celebrating the Queen’s Birthday.
What Meghan’s Life Is Like Day-to-Day

With Baby Archie now a month old, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been nesting and enjoying the first month as parents. Prince Harry is sharing the parenting duties with Meghan Markle, and the Sussexes have settled into a routine with their newborn.

Meghan is breastfeeding, and Harry is changing diapers. Both are bonding with the newest addition to the family. Harry wants to be as “involved as possible,” so like every parent, he is feeling the effects of the sleepless nights. He’s exhausted, but “enjoying every minute of it.”

One family member shared, “[Archie] is the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen. They couldn’t be happier.”

The new parents are also enjoying lovely long walks within the Frogmore Cottage grounds with Baby Archie. The couple love the privacy their Windsor home affords them. It’s everything they hoped and, according to a trusted confidant, is “providing the family with so much happiness! It is quiet and out of the hustle and bustle of London. For them all to be able to walk freely and enjoy the beautiful area is such a sensational treat!”

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, who spent just over five weeks with the couple helping them get settled in, has “returned to LA but plans to make extended visits to see her grandson,” according to a source who spoke to ELLE.com.

Meghan loved having her mother around. The two enjoyed light yoga sessions, and Meghan was grateful to have her mother share in such an important moment in her life. The couple did not have a nanny for the first weeks and relied on Doria’s help getting settled, but Harry is happy to cook and often will make tea for visitors and friends to give Meghan a little break.

A trusted confidant shared that “Meghan is radiant, taking each day one day at a time…what strikes me most is this authentic peacefulness that has settled within her.”

The Sussexes have been entertaining close friends and family. They’ve had a regular stream of friends, according to a source, all wanting to wish them well. Harry is “over the moon” and has been looking forward to fatherhood for so long. Everyone in the family is excited for their happiness.

Meghan is expected to take a three to four month-long maternity leave, but will make “intermittent appearances,” according to a Royal source. We may get our first glimpse of Archie in about six weeks for his christening before the The Queen leaves for Balmoral at the end of July. Otherwise, the Queen historically returns from Balmoral in late October.

Friends and family have showered them with gifts. “Several family members have brought books and cuddly toys (stuffed animals),” according to one source. They’ve entertained some of their closest friends, including Nacho Figueras and his wife, Serena Williams and her husband Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, Canadian pal Jessica Mulroney and her daughter Ivy, along with Meghan’s makeup artist Daniel Martin. Harry’s longtime childhood mates and Windsor cousins have also stopped by to spend time with the couple in the weeks following Archie’s birth.

Nacho Figueras, Harry’s close friend and ambassador to Harry’s charity Sentebale, recently shared Harry couldn’t be happier. “I met the baby in London before playing polo with him in Rome, and he was very good with the baby. He’s a natural, he knows what to do,” Figueras said during the red-carpet arrivals at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. “He’s already an amazing father. He’s always loved kids. We have been friends for a very long time and I’ve seen him spend time with children in all the things we do for Sentebale, so I never had a doubt about it. He loves children. He’s really happy.”
What’s Next for Meghan

Meghan is not expected Tuesday at Harry’s benefit Sentebale concert with Prince Seeiso and Rita Ora at Hampton Court Palace. It’s quite likely Meghan could make an appearance at Wimbledon, like she did last year, to support her close friend Serena Williams. While focused on Archie during her maternity leave, Meghan is incredibly “passionate about her humanitarian work,” a friend shared. Meghan will be quietly preparing for the couple’s fall trip to Africa where well wishers are looking forward to Archie’s public debut, much like Prince George did with William and Kate in Australia and New Zealand.

In the near term, the couple are considering who to name as godparents to Baby Archie. For now, Meghan is enjoying motherhood, getting to know her son and with Prince Harry savoring their time with the newest member of the Royal Family.
