Meghan Markle Gives Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet a Shout Out When Asked About Holiday Traditions

For Meghan Markle, the holidays are about her children: Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, hit the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Just a week away from Thanksgiving, Meghan was asked by a reporter about her favorite holiday tradition.

“That’s a great question,” she replied. “Our little ones are little, and we’re enjoying every moment of it.”

Meghan and Prince Harry welcomed their son, Archie, in May 2019, and their daughter, Lilibet, made them a family of four in June 2021. In their holiday card released that year, they said, “Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa,’ and Lili made us a family.”

Meghan previously spoke about how their family spends the holidays during a November 2021 appearance on her friend Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show. Asked about their Thanksgiving plans that year, Meghan shared, “I love to cook. We’ll be home and just sort of relax and settle in. It’s our second Thanksgiving at home in California, so it will be nice.”

DeGeneres, who also lives in Montecito, then joked, “What time should we show up?”

During the same interview, Meghan spoke about Lili’s first Halloween, which was spent with DeGeneres.

“We wanted to do something fun for the kids, and then the kids were just not into it at all,” Meghan revealed, adding that Archie had a dinosaur costume but only wore the outfit for “about five minutes.”

“Not even five minutes,” DeGeneres chimed in. “Finally Harry talked him into putting the head on.”

Meanwhile, Lili was dressed up as a skunk, “like Flower from Bambi,” Meghan said.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first holiday season in California approached in 2020, a source told PEOPLE that they were “excited to decorate for Christmas.”

During her surprise red carpet appearance, Meghan hinted at what she hopes to do in the future with her projects.

“Things that make people feel…I was gonna say good, but it’s more than that. Things that make people feel something, right?” she said, according to Variety. “Feel a sense of community. But we have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them. We’re just really proud of what we’re creating, and my husband is loving it too.”

Inside the event, Meghan stood and clapped for all the honorees and their presenters. “She kept intently focused on the program the whole time and didn’t seem to talk to anyone at her table,” says an onlooker.

Meghan was named an honoree for Variety’s Power of Women issue last year. However, she did not attend the event in Los Angeles, which took place just a few weeks after the death of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry’s grandmother.

This year’s Power of Women honorees are Fantasia Barrino, Billie Eilish, Lily Gladstone and Carey Mulligan. LuckyChap co-founders Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara were awarded the Producer of the Year award.
