Back in February, Meghan Markle said during her appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum that women’s empowerment would be her focus as a royal—after the wedding, of course. “So yeah, I guess we wait a couple months and then we can hit the ground running,” she said. The ceremony is now done, along with Markle’s first event as a full-fledged member of the family with Prince Harry, which happened Tuesday.
Markle is now set to go on her honeymoon, but shortly after that, expect to see the Duchess of Sussex out on multiple solo events and announcing her own project she’s already working on, royal expert and ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie told ELLE.com.
“Meghan is keen to start working as soon as they return from honeymoon,” Scobie said. “She has been quietly working on a project that will be announced later this year. Meghan’s first solo engagements will see her visiting a number of small charities and grass roots organizations across the UK as she continues to decide what her first patronage will be. We know that she’s a keen feminist, it’s written in her official bio on the official Royal Family website—a first!—and she’s interested in issues that affect youth in the UK, such as gang culture. It will be exciting to see how she uses this very influential platform she now stands on.”
There are two definite events Harry and Markle will be at: “Harry and Meghan have Trooping the Colour on June 9 [Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday celebration], which will give us that wonderful balcony moment we have all come to look forward to every year, and then there’s Order of the Garter on June 18,” Scobie said.
The two are also have multiple oversea trips planned: “With Harry appointed by the Queen as Commonwealth Youth Leader and Meghan’s poignant inclusion of all 53 Commonwealth countries in the design of her veil, much of their joint work will focus on issues that span the entire Commonwealth Nation,” Scobie said. “This, of course, means they will undertake a lot of travel over the next year. They’re likely to do a short overseas visit before the fall and in October, they’ll be in Sydney for the Invictus Games that will then continue into a tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.”
“Kensington Palace says the next six months for Harry and Meghan will be ‘very busy’ so it’s no doubt going to be a challenging, but also very rewarding, time for the couple.”
