Meghan Markle and Prince Harry exploring Colombia

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Cartagena on Aug. 17, the latest leg of their visit to the South American country. There, the couple visited Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, a local drum school working to preserve the art form of traditional African drumming.

Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan, 43, were welcomed to the hub with the sounds of booming drums and were greeted by school founder Rafael Ramos. Following an opening performance, they heard from members of the local community of all ages about the importance of preserving Cartagena’s culture, specifically its Afro-Colombian roots.

Meghan Markle Makes Surprise Visit to Memorial for School Shooting Victims in Texas

Meghan Markle visited Uvalde, Texas, on Thursday to honor the victims of the elementary school shooting that took the lives of 19 young students and two teachers.

Meghan, who lives in California with her husband Prince Harry and their two young children, was spotted laying white flowers with a purple ribbon at a memorial outside Uvalde County Courthouse. She then knelt down and hung her head at the cross for 10-year-old victim Uziyah Garcia.

The Duchess of Sussex crossed her arms as she walked around looking at the memorials to the victims. She was dressed casually in jeans, sneakers and a baseball cap.

Meghan took the trip in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief, according to a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex.

On Tuesday, an 18-year-old gunman wearing body armor crashed his car in a ditch near the school, then, after getting past law enforcement, entered a classroom and locked himself inside, killing 21 people.

In 2019, Meghan and Harry, who live in Montecito, Calif., with their son Archie and daughter Lilibet, paid tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, where 50 people died and dozens more were injured after a gunman opened fire on two mosques.

They left flowers outside New Zealand House in London along with a note. Meghan wrote: “Our deepest condolences. We are with you.” Harry signed his name with “Arohanui,” which is Maori for “best wishes.”

Through the couple’s Archewell Foundation, which they launched in 2020, Harry and Meghan have supported efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and focused their attention on the Black Lives Matter movement and fighting for racial justice.

Meghan, 40, and Prince Harry, 37, are expected to travel to the U.K. with their children next week to take part in Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex Sets Up First Spotify Podcast

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is to host a podcast series about the common stereotypes that have historically generalized women as the first project from her and Prince Harry’s Archewell Audio after striking a multi-million dollar deal with Spotify.

The audio streaming service has set Archetypes to launch later this year.

The series will see Meghan Markle investigate the labels that try to hold women back. She will speak with historians and experts to uncover the origin of these stereotypes and have uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives.

It comes after Spotify was quick to dampen tabloid speculation that it was growing frustrated by the fact that only one episode of a podcast has so far emerged from the royal deal since it was announced in December 2020.

“This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us . . . but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives,” Markle said in the teaser. “This is Archetypes — the podcast where we dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. I’ll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I’ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place.”

Archetypes will be produced by Archewell Audio in partnership with Gimlet Media for Spotify. Markle, Ben Browning, Archewell’s Head of Content, and Rebecca Sananes, Archewell’s Head of Audio, will serve as executive producers alongside Dawn Ostroff, Courtney Holt, and Julie McNamara for Spotify. The teaser was produced in partnership with Little Everywhere, a podcast production house led by Jane Marie.

The Losses We Share

It was a July morning that began as ordinarily as any other day: Make breakfast. Feed the dogs. Take vitamins. Find that missing sock. Pick up the rogue crayon that rolled under the table. Throw my hair in a ponytail before getting my son from his crib.

After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.

I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.

Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal.

I recalled a moment last year when Harry and I were finishing up a long tour in South Africa. I was exhausted. I was breastfeeding our infant son, and I was trying to keep a brave face in the very public eye.
