As she prepares for her royal wedding, Meghan Markle has officially said goodbye to acting.
On Wednesday, Markle, who has previously said that she would be retiring from acting to focus on her royal duties, made her last appearance as an actress on the season 7 finale of Suits.
In the two-hour episode, Markle’s character, Rachel Zane and fiancé, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams, who is also leaving the USA Network series) get a job offer that’s too good to pass up. The pair accepts, but there’s a catch. It’s in Seattle. So the couple quickly moves up their special day, and finally tie the knot.
Following news of Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry, USA Network announced back in November that Meghan would be leaving the hit legal drama.
“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement,” the statement read.
“Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her,” continued the statement. “We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”
Meghan, who was one of the original cast members of the show (featured in 107 episodes) since it first aired in June 2011, also confirmed that she would no longer be acting.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said in her first joint interview with Prince Harry in November.
“It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series,” she explained, adding, “I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”
While she will be stepping away from TV roles, Meghan will continue to further her passion for humanitarian work.
“I think what’s been really exciting as we talk about the transition out of my career and into my role is,” she said. “The causes that are really important to me that I can focus even more energy on. Very early out of the gate, I think you realize you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen and with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously.”

Mike (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel (Meghan Markle) spent their final episode fighting corrupt Fortune 500 companies and trading “I do’s” in front of their closest family and friends. It turned out that Mike’s dream job offer of running a firm that solely tackled class action law suits in Seattle was in fact very real and not a set up by the power company he was fighting in court. When Rachel did some digging into said company, she discovered the job offer was still open and decided it was an opportunity the lovebirds couldn’t waste.
Of course, they couldn’t leave New York without tying the knot. The moved up their wedding six weeks, recruiting Donna (Sarah Rafferty) because only she could get a job like this done, and had a rustic and chic night wedding. Rachel looked radiant in a lace white dress, far simpler than what Meghan Markle is expected to wear for her own wedding to Prince Harry in a few weeks. Mike and his best man Harvey (Gabriel Macht), matched in their tailored suits (Sorry, it was too irresistible to pass up).
Mike and Rachel have been an item since Season 1 and have been engaged since Season 5. Prison stints and reorganizing law firms have kept the nuptials from happening earlier, but the wedding felt like the perfect way to send them off into the sunset together. It is the happy ending they deserve, even if their departure comes sooner than fans wanted.
However, the most poignant moment of the entire ceremony actually came in Mike’s goodbye to his mentor Harvey. Yes, Mike and Rachel have been romantically entangled in some way or another over the course of the entire season, but Harvey and Mike have been pseudo-brothers from the opening of the pilot. They are the titular suits and their friendship has been the central relationship of the show since the beginning.
That’s what made it so touching when Mike announced that he was leaving because he was ready. Harvey had taught him everything that he knew and now Mike is ready to go out into the world and become the lawyer he’s always wanted to be. He’s no longer a kid or a fraud. He’s a man with goals and ideals and it’s time for him to stand on his own two feet.
Harvey was sad to see his No. 2 go, but even he could see that it was time to let Mike and Rachel leave the nest. Cheers to the happy couple, and here’s to changing the world one lead poisoning case at a time.
Suits Season 8 will air later this year on USA.

Meghan Markle’s road from California schoolgirl to actress to future bride to the fifth-in-line to the British throne is a real-life fairytale.
Markle, 36, will become part of the British royal family when she weds Prince Harry, 33, at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.
While the life of a royal is undeniably glamorous from the outside, Markle will be expected to embrace the official duties that come along with joining the royal family, a role she may not have imagined herself in even just a few years ago.
Take a look at the ways Markle’s life has changed, and how she is learning the ways of royalty. Continue reading Real life to royal: How Meghan Markle’s life is changing
As a team of professionals at Kensington Palace oversees the metamorphosis of Meghan Markle from American actor to British princess, they may have squandered one useful gift: her dowry.
“As I understand it, there have been an extra 1m hits on the royal Kensington Palace website as a result of Meghan,” said Andrew Morton, the biographer of Diana, Princess of Wales; of Wallis Simpson – the last US divorcee to marry into the family; and now of Markle.
Once her romance with Prince Harry was confirmed, the former star of legal drama Suits shut down The Tig, her lifestyle website, and bid farewell to 1.9 million Instagram followers. “Talk about frittering away a constituency,” said Morton, whose book Meghan: The Hollywood Princess is published this week. “In the old days, a bride brought a dowry. She brought 1.9 million Instagram followers, all of whom have been cast aside.”
Palace aides might look at another American princess, Sarah Butler, who, like Markle, studied international relations and married into royalty. Now HRH Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, she advocates on mother and child rights, harnessing her social media power to disseminate her message, Morton said. Meghan Markle has a busy week coming up. The future royal will attend two engagements during the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, which convenes every two years and this year takes place in London. Given that she is not yet a fully fledged member of the family, it is highly unusual for Markle to be involved in such a high-profile event (the meeting is a summit of the Commonwealth’s 53 leaders). It’s a strong hint at what Markle might do once she is a member of the royal family.
Meghan will attend the Commonwealth Youth Forum in London on Wednesday, with Prince Harry, as well as a Women’s Empowerment reception on Thursday which involves charities and organizations working to promote gender equality through girls’ education, a cause Markle is passionate about. Her presence at C.H.O.G.M. is being seen in royal circles as very significant, and yet another indication of how warmly she has been welcomed into the royal fold ahead of her wedding. “Clearly the feeling is that she is equipped and ready for the job even before the ring is on her finger,” a former courtier told Vanity Fair. “This is quite unusual. C.H.O.G.M. is a very important official meeting. It’s quite something for Meghan to be involved.”
The news that Markle will attend her very first C.H.O.G.M. follows Kensington Palace’s announcement earlier today that Prince Harry has been made president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. The new youth charity, of which Her Majesty is Patron, provides a platform for young changemakers across the Commonwealth in the areas of education, sport, health, and the environment. All good things must come to an end. The relationships you expected to end ended in tonight’s Suits. Sure, it wasn’t surprising, but it was still rather entertaining to watch exactly how these things fell apart.
At the top of the hour, it seems like Harvey and Paula are out of the woods. As they’re enjoying coffee together in the morning, Harvey says he wants to take her out for a nice, intimate dinner. Paula says yes. But what’s supposed to be a romantic dinner for two turns into an awkward evening meal for three people because Harvey’s mom comes down to the city for the night and asks to see him. Not wanting to disappoint either woman, Harvey decides to invite his mother to dinner.
The Harvey-Paula-Lily dinner starts out well. There’s laughing, stories are shared. No awkwardness in sight! But then Lily accidentally ruins it. As she’s about to leave, she thanks Paula for being the reason she and Harvey reconnected since Harvey told her that someone important in his life pushed him to do it. But, in case you forgot, that wasn’t Paula. That was Donna. Paula’s face drops, and the meal ends on a very awkward note.
And thus we arrive at the first ruined relationship in the episode. Paula realizes that she really can’t handle Donna being such an integral part of Harvey’s life because her ex cheated on her with someone he worked with and now she’s worried it’ll happen again — even though she knows she shouldn’t let the past affect this new relationship. So, she does what we all hoped she wouldn’t and gives Harvey an ultimatum: their relationship or Donna. It’s a moment I’ve been dreading because this is such a worn out cliché, but Christina Cole makes it work because you believe that Paula realizes how messed up this is and yet knows it’s the only thing that will ease her mind. Markle opted for a more casual look for the occasion, wearing an Invictus Games polo, a jacket by Babaton for Aritiza, and jeans by MOTHER.

Or at least that’s what you’d think! According to a new report from Good Morning America royal correspondent Omid Scobie, Markle has managed to not only step out of her Palace digs without being detected—she actually fled to a different country for a pre-wedding errand. Markle “quietly jetted” out of London on Thursday to make her way to Los Angeles, where she is reportedly “spending quality time”—and, of course, “talking wedding plans”—with her mother, Doria Ragland. Scobie reports that this is not the only mother-daughter time the two will get before the big day, as Ragland will be flying back to London well in advance of the wedding. (Secret wedding-dress fittings continue to take place in an “undisclosed London location” and at the Palace.)
It’s unclear if Markle is still in Los Angeles, or if she has returned already to London, but this likely solves Sunday’s mystery as to why Markle and Harry did not attend Easter services with the rest of the royals in Windsor. It’s also worth just marveling at her ability to (presumably) do errands and see her mother and generally conduct her business without being snapped (her mother is a regular paparazzi target at this point, as Ragland was photographed leaving her home on Monday). Perhaps the upshot here is: Meghan Markle, improbably, could be anywhere! (or at least we like to imagine so . . . ). That could be her waiting in the car with tinted windows outside your Soul Cycle class, or her in the dark sunglasses shrouded in a blanket in the first-class cabin on your London to Los Angeles flight.
