Meghan Markle and the Queen to spend day together in Cheshire – all the details

The Duchess of Sussex will spend the day with the Queen next week, carrying out a day of engagements in Cheshire on Thursday 14 June. New dates in the court circular reveal that the royals will officially open the Mersey Gateway Bridge before opening the Storyhouse Theatre. Meghan and the monarch will then attend a lunch at Chester Town Hall.

Meghan’s day out with the Queen marks a milestone in her royal life. It is the first time the former actress is carrying out official duties without her husband Prince Harry, and also marks her first engagement with the 92-year-old monarch. Meghan has previously accompanied the Queen on other engagements, such as at the Commonwealth Day service in March, but she was joined by other members of the royal family.

Meghan officially joined the royal family two weeks ago, when she married Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. In contrast, the Duchess of Cambridge waited nearly a year before she carried out her first engagement with the Queen, without her husband Prince William. In March 2012, Kate and the monarch visited the iconic Fortnum & Mason store in central London, accompanied by Prince Charles’ wife Camilla.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, are currently on their honeymoon, but the couple are expected to make their next official appearance on Saturday at Trooping the Colour. The newlyweds will join the rest of the royal family in celebrating the Queen’s birthday at Buckingham Palace. Kate, who is on maternity leave until the autumn, is also expected to make a rare appearance. The Duchess’ children Prince George and Princess Charlotte will join in the festivities, but it’s thought that William and Kate’s newborn son, Prince Louis, is still too young.

Despite being on their honeymoon, Harry did choose to announce some very exciting work-related news. The Prince revealed via Kensington Palace that the fifth Invictus Games will be hosted by the Netherlands in May 2020. Harry is patron and founder of the Invictus Games Foundation and will visit the country next month.

Meghan Markle Is Getting Help from Both the Queen and Kate Middleton’s Trusted Advisers

On Tuesday, only three days after her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle made her first public appearance as the Duchess of Sussex. And it was no minor event, either, as Meghan appeared with Harry, Charles, and Camilla at a 70th birthday event in honor of Prince Charles, which was attended by some 6,000 people.

Notably, gone was the messy bun and bare legs that characterized most of Meghan’s previous appearances; instead, she sported a sleek hairstyle (no tendrils in sight!) and the nude panty hose rumored to be required by the Queen for all royals. And her dress, made by Goat (one of Kate’s favorite brands), was extremely Middleton-esque, too. According to a royal source, the similarities to Kate’s sartorial flair are no coincidence.

“Kate has been on hand to help Meghan get that polished royal look as has her stylist, Natasha Archer, who is Kate’s secret weapon in the style department,” the source said to Vanity Fair. “Meghan now needs to find her own stylist so that she can curate her own look, but both Kate and Natasha have been very kind in helping her out in recent months.”

Vanity Fair has previously revealed how Kate had introduced Meghan to Emilia Wickstead, one of her other favorite designers, who helped ensure Meghan was dressed appropriately for the recent Anzac Day service she attended with Prince Harry.

What Meghan Markle’s First Solo Events as a Royal Will Be

Back in February, Meghan Markle said during her appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum that women’s empowerment would be her focus as a royal—after the wedding, of course. “So yeah, I guess we wait a couple months and then we can hit the ground running,” she said. The ceremony is now done, along with Markle’s first event as a full-fledged member of the family with Prince Harry, which happened Tuesday.

Markle is now set to go on her honeymoon, but shortly after that, expect to see the Duchess of Sussex out on multiple solo events and announcing her own project she’s already working on, royal expert and ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie told ELLE.com.

“Meghan is keen to start working as soon as they return from honeymoon,” Scobie said. “She has been quietly working on a project that will be announced later this year. Meghan’s first solo engagements will see her visiting a number of small charities and grass roots organizations across the UK as she continues to decide what her first patronage will be. We know that she’s a keen feminist, it’s written in her official bio on the official Royal Family website—a first!—and she’s interested in issues that affect youth in the UK, such as gang culture. It will be exciting to see how she uses this very influential platform she now stands on.” Continue reading What Meghan Markle’s First Solo Events as a Royal Will Be

‘I’m Always Going to Be Meg’: The Sweet Thing Meghan Markle Told Makeup Artist Pal Before Wedding

Meghan Markle may now be officially known as the Duchess of Sussex, but to her friends, she’s still just “Meg.”

Makeup artist Daniel Martin — the creative consultant for Honest Beauty, Dior Beauty brand ambassador and a longtime friend of Meghan’s who helped her achieve the perfect beauty look for her wedding day — tells PEOPLE that even he was confused as to what to call her after she was married to Prince Harry.

“I asked her that. ‘Do I bow to you? I don’t want to disrespect you, but I’ve known for almost ten years. What’s up?’” he recalls. “She started laughing and she said, ‘I’m always going to be Meg. Meg.’”

Martin added, “But next time I see them I will be respectful and know my protocol. But Meg is always going to be Meg, that’s how it is!”

The Untold Story of Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress

With so much changing in Meghan Markle’s life after Prince Harry proposed in November 2017, the now-Duchess of Sussex didn’t get a chance to begin planning the breathtaking bridal gown she wore on her wedding day until a month after her engagement. Busy touring the U.K. with Harry for royal engagements, taking private meetings at Kensington Palace, and unpacking the last of her things from her Toronto move, Markle needed a mid-December reminder from her best friend and bridal expert Jessica Mulroney, who told the bride-to-be during a phone call that the search for a royal wedding dress designer needed to begin “ASAP.”

Citing just a dozen “bridal inspo” pics saved to her phone from Instagram, Pinterest, and fashion websites, Markle knew exactly what she was looking for—modern, elegant, timeless, and appropriate. With the help of Mulroney, Markle worked her way through a list of potential designers, many of whom had submitted sketches to her office at Kensington Palace. “Designers from every big name in fashion you can think of were on that first list,” a source close to Markle tells BAZAAR.com. “Burberry, Ralph and Russo, Erdem, Roland Mouret, Stella [McCartney].” Continue reading The Untold Story of Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress

Meghan Markle Chooses Her First Royal Job

She has only been a member of what Prince Philip calls “the Firm” for three days, but Meghan Markle is already preparing for her role as a working royal.

Sources at the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, of which Harry is the president, have told Vanity Fair that Meghan plans to start working with the organization imminently. “It’s going to be one of the first official roles Meghan takes on,” the source said. “There have already been talks, and when Meghan was asked when she wanted to get involved she replied ‘May 20.’”

The role would fit with the couple’s ambitions to focus their efforts within the Commonwealth countries and realms, where they would particularly like to put the spotlight on young people. The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust works to provide small loans and funding to young people throughout the Commonwealth who are leading their own nonprofits or otherwise embarking on projects that serve the greater good.

A Palace aide confirmed the news: “The Duchess will be involved in supporting their work.” Continue reading Meghan Markle Chooses Her First Royal Job

See The Bespoke Wedding Bracelet Meghan Markle Commissioned for Her Best Friends

It’s not every day that your jewelry gets worn to a royal wedding.

But that’s exactly what happened for jeweler Lisette Polny, founder of Zofia Day, when Meghan Markle‘s friends wore her pieces on Saturday.

“It’s an overwhelming honor to be part of history and for my pieces to be given as a keepsake for this momentous occasion,” Polny tells PEOPLE exclusively.

As a token of her appreciation, Meghan gifted six of her best friends — and new sister-in-law Kate Middleton! — with a solid gold disc bracelet, suitably called the “Kensington.” The bespoke design in yellow gold was made specifically for the royal wedding and approved by Meghan herself. The special piece is now available to buy for $450.

While they weren’t official bridesmaids, Meghan’s closest confidantes, including Benita Litt and Jessica Mulroney, were by her side on her big day — and it was Meghan’s wish that they be given something special to remember the occasion. Photos: The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

Hello Everyone! Today was the big day! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially husband and wife! The wedding was absolutely wonderful and so emotional. Meghan looked stunning as we all knew she would. At the time of writing this, post wedding festivities are under way! Of course Mary and I are busy adding tons of photos and will continue to add photos over the next couple of days, but before we get to those, here are some highlights from the day!

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now to be referred to as The Duke and The Duchess of Sussex.
  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose Cleave and Company to make their Wedding rings. Meghan’s ring has been fashioned from a piece of Welsh Gold, gifted by Her Majesty The Queen. Prince Harry’s ring is a Platinum Band with a textured finish.
  • Meghan’s wedding dress has been designed by the acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms. Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. Ms. Markle expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony. Ms. Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition. The veil is held in place by Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, lent to Ms. Markle by The Queen. The diamond bandeau is English and was made in 1932, with the entre brooch dating from 1893.
  • The Prince of Wales accompanied Ms. Meghan Markle down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel today.
  • Her Majesty The Queen is giving a Lunchtime Reception at St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle for around 600 guests drawn from the Wedding Service congregation.
  • The wedding cake is to be served at the Reception. It was designed by Claire Ptak and features elderflower syrup made at The Queen’s residence in Sandringham from the estate’s own elderflower trees, as well as a light sponge cake uniquely formulated for the couple. A filling made from Amalfi lemon curd and elderflower buttercream ties all the elements together. The cake is decorated with Swiss meringue buttercream and 150 fresh flowers, mainly British, and in season, including peonies and roses.
  • Sir Elton John has performed at the lunchtime reception for the newlyweds, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex departed Windsor Castle for a reception hosted by The Prince of Wales at Frogmore House, in a silver blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero. This vehicle was originally manufactured in 1968, and has since been converted to electric power.
  • Meghan wore Stella McCartney for her second gown, and a blue ring from Princess Diana’s collection.
  • Now onto the photos!

Suited for a World Stage: Meghan Markle Is the Inclusive Feminist the Royals Need

‘Suits’ alum Markle has already shaken up the Royal family — and she’s only just begun to make her mark.
The day Charles and Diana got married in 1981, my mother looked down at my sleep-disheveled form on the couch and said, “Your grandfather would be spinning in his grave if he knew you were watching this.”

Back in Ireland a hundred or so years ago, my grandfather had worked for exploitative businesses owned by English aristocrats, and he’d had nasty run-ins with the King’s law-enforcement minions too. His opinion of rich Brits was low, to put it mildly. How could I be so royal-mad then — and now? Why will I get up early on May 19 to watch Meghan Markle tie the knot with Prince Harry?

There are a few reasons, and one of them is that I’m a sucker for pomp, pageantry and gorgeous gowns. Saturday is basically the Emmys with golden trumpets and gilded carriages and no Ryan Seacrest. Add to that the fact that Meghan and Harry give every indication of being really and truly in love, and honestly, what’s not to like? How Meghan Markle is breaking royal protocol to become a modern princess

Meghan Markle will not be your traditional royal.

The 36-year-old bride will be the first divorced, biracial, Jewish American actress to join the British royal family, and it doesn’t stop there.

Markle has broken royal protocol since her engagement to Prince Harry last November to become a unique and relatable public figure in the British monarchy.

“It was known before Meghan got engaged to Harry that she alone of his many girlfriends could cope with the interest and publicity and work the crowds,” says British public relations consultant and royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. “Meghan-mania is the result.”

Although she won’t officially be a royal until after the couple weds on May 19, Markle is already making the role all her own.

She broke one major rule from the start of her engagement: She didn’t wear stockings at the announcement of their impending nuptials at Kensington Palace.

“Nude stockings, though not her usual style, are expected” by the palace, Fitzwilliams says.

Also a no-no? That sold-out denim she wore on her first public appearance with Prince Harry. “The ripped jeans she wore at the Invictus Games are a thing of the past,” Fitzwilliams says.

While Princess Diana and Duchess Kate carried clutches to head off unwanted handshakes, Markle has switched it up with a mix of bags with shoulder straps and handles.

“She wants to be more approachable, as her role will be different from Kate’s,” Fitzwilliams says. “A handle or shoulder strap is therefore more her style if she wants to reach out, shake hands and touch more or hug.”

Outside of fashion, Markle will likely have to tone down some of the warm tendencies she cultivated in Hollywood. “She will find some protocol challenging, and signing autographs is absolutely out of bounds.” In January, Markle responded to a young fan’s request for an autograph by writing a greeting without signing her name.

She has continued to display affection for Prince Harry at their public engagements, often holding his hand or touching his arm. She also hugged a young girl at an appearance on International Women’s Day.

“She has been careful to avoid breaking the rule about selfies, but there is no actual ‘rule’ regarding holding hands and also hugging someone,” Fitzwilliams says.

Although she left her job on TV’s Suits, don’t expect her to stay silent about issues she deems important. Along with her and Harry’s dedication to philanthropic work, Markle has spoken up about the Time’s Up and Me Too movements.

“Women don’t need to find a voice,” Markle said at a Royal Foundation forum in February. “They have a voice. They need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.”

As far as other basic royal protocol, both Prince Harry and Duchess Kate are thought to be helping Markle master it all, including “who curtsies to whom when alone and how this alters if their husband is present,” Fitzwilliams says.

“What is so precious is Meghan’s independence of spirit,” Fitzwilliams says. “She will abide by basic protocol — whether or not it is written down — whilst cultivating her own distinctive style.”

Dress Fittings, Nails, and Red Wine: How Meghan Markle Is Preparing for the Royal Wedding

With the royal wedding just nine days away and no more official engagements on their calendars, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are ticking off the final to-dos before they say “I do.”

Markle, who is said to have largely planned the wedding with her best friend, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney, is “on top of everything,” according to one friend, and looking forward to welcoming her parents; her mother is already rumored to be in London. “Meghan can’t wait to see them and show them her new home. There won’t be a rehearsal dinner. Instead, Meg has planned a number of low-key events for her parents so they can meet her new friends,” a source said.

As Vanity Fair reported last week, there will be a private family meeting so that Harry’s family, including his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, can meet Markle’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland. Her parents will spend a brief amount of time in London before heading to Windsor, where there will be a dress rehearsal ahead of the big day. The Palace has not yet confirmed where Markle and Ragland will be staying.

Meanwhile, Markle has been busily zooming around the capital doing last-minute pre-wedding jobs. Her schedule is being managed by Harry’s senior communications officer, Amy Pickerill, while the actress has an army of professionals on hand to get her ready for May 19. According to sources, she has had her final dress fitting and is said to be overjoyed with her bespoke wedding gown. (Bookmakers stopped taking bets on the designer of the dress in late March; photographs were released of Harry leaving Ralph & Russo last week.)

It is thought that Harry and his family will pay for the dress, which is rumored to cost £100,000 and is said to be adorned with hand-stitched beading. Markle is also said to have booked the services of celebrity stylist Miguel Perez, known for “bouncy curls,” to do her wedding-day hair. Though The Mail on Sunday recently quoted Perez saying that he and Markle “have a plan” for the wedding day, Perez has since taken to Instagram to say that he is not doing Markle’s hair and “did not even meet Meghan.”

Markle has made an appointment to see her trusted facialist, Nichola Joss, whose signature facial involves massaging inside the mouth to lift and sculpt the muscle. Her manicurist has been booked to come to Kensington Palace next week to ensure her nails look perfect for that all-important close-up when she and Harry exchange rings. And Meghan has been exercising, doing regular workouts at Kensington Palace and Heartcore Pilates, with her friend, instructor Heather Dorak, to combat her pre-wedding nerves. “Meghan has been doing regular exercise as a way of beating the stress,” said a source. “She goes jogging around the park most days and starts every morning with some yoga and a meditation.”

While she and Harry have both practically quit drinking as part of their healthy pre-wedding regimen (Harry has also quit smoking for Meghan), the actress is partial to a glass of red wine in the evenings to help her unwind.

It is also going to be an exciting day for little Jasper George Galloway Dyer, who has been asked to be a page boy on the big day. The five-year-old son of Prince Harry’s close friend Mark Dyer is rumored to be one of Prince Harry’s godsons, and will join Prince George, who will also feature as one of the couple’s page boys, presumably. While Kensington Palace has not announced the details of the bridal party, the Dyers have excitedly been telling friends that their son Jasper will have a “starring role” on May 19.

Dyer is a former equerry to Prince Charles who became a mentor to Prince Harry in the years after Princess Diana’s death. It was Dyer who suggested Harry travel to Lesotho in his gap year, and the two have been close ever since.

Why You Won’t Be Seeing #PrinceHarry and #MeghanMarkle Until Their Wedding Day

The next time you see Meghan Markle, she’ll be walking down the aisle to marry Prince Harry!

In sad news for royal fans, the couple will not be seen in any official capacity until their wedding day in less than three weeks, PEOPLE understands.

Meghan and Harry, who are set to tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, do not have any public duties or outings scheduled on their royal calendar until the big day.

They will continue to have briefings, visits and meetings — but they will all be private.

Time off before the big day is well-deserved, as Harry and Meghan have kept a full schedule since they announced their engagement in November. In the run-up to their wedding, the future newlyweds have traveled all over the U.K. on official royal duty.

As the wedding nears, members of Meghan’s expected bridal party have been in London for fittings and pre-wedding meetings.

Groom-to-be Prince Harry, meanwhile, has been keeping toned before the big day with visits to the gym.

While Meghan’s bridal party members have yet to be announced, Prince Harry revealed last week that big brother Prince William! will be standing by his side as his best man.

Meghan Markle Ends Acting Career Ahead of Her Royal Wedding… with a TV Wedding!

As she prepares for her royal wedding, Meghan Markle has officially said goodbye to acting.

On Wednesday, Markle, who has previously said that she would be retiring from acting to focus on her royal duties, made her last appearance as an actress on the season 7 finale of Suits.

In the two-hour episode, Markle’s character, Rachel Zane and fiancé, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams, who is also leaving the USA Network series) get a job offer that’s too good to pass up. The pair accepts, but there’s a catch. It’s in Seattle. So the couple quickly moves up their special day, and finally tie the knot.

Following news of Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry, USA Network announced back in November that Meghan would be leaving the hit legal drama.

“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement,” the statement read.

“Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her,” continued the statement. “We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”

Meghan, who was one of the original cast members of the show (featured in 107 episodes) since it first aired in June 2011, also confirmed that she would no longer be acting.

“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said in her first joint interview with Prince Harry in November.

“It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series,” she explained, adding, “I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”

While she will be stepping away from TV roles, Meghan will continue to further her passion for humanitarian work.

“I think what’s been really exciting as we talk about the transition out of my career and into my role is,” she said. “The causes that are really important to me that I can focus even more energy on. Very early out of the gate, I think you realize you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen and with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously.”

‘Team Meghan’ helps Markle prepare for life as a princess

As a team of professionals at Kensington Palace oversees the metamorphosis of Meghan Markle from American actor to British princess, they may have squandered one useful gift: her dowry.

“As I understand it, there have been an extra 1m hits on the royal Kensington Palace website as a result of Meghan,” said Andrew Morton, the biographer of Diana, Princess of Wales; of Wallis Simpson – the last US divorcee to marry into the family; and now of Markle.

Once her romance with Prince Harry was confirmed, the former star of legal drama Suits shut down The Tig, her lifestyle website, and bid farewell to 1.9 million Instagram followers. “Talk about frittering away a constituency,” said Morton, whose book Meghan: The Hollywood Princess is published this week. “In the old days, a bride brought a dowry. She brought 1.9 million Instagram followers, all of whom have been cast aside.”

Palace aides might look at another American princess, Sarah Butler, who, like Markle, studied international relations and married into royalty. Now HRH Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, she advocates on mother and child rights, harnessing her social media power to disseminate her message, Morton said.
